Update
Tidewell Hospice has produced a documentary on the Clowning Around
Town Event. Showing on The
Ed Channel in the Sarasota area. The documentary shows the clowns, artists, and the Tidewell organization and
it's goals. We are in the documentary as featured artists! Proud to have been a participant / artist in this worthy
cause.
Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, located in Sarasota FL has been working
on a project to put fiberglass clowns all around Sarasota. Clowning
Around Town. They had a different approach than the city of Venice did with the pigs. They decided to have
a contest so to speak. Tidewell asked artists to summit up to 5 designs of what their clown would look like if
their design was picked. Tidewell got sponsors to contribute from $3,500.00 to $20,000.00 so they could purchase
the fiberglass forms and be able to pay the artists picked a honorarium for their work.The Hospice is trying to
build a new children's Hospice through this charity. Only 40 artists were eventually picked from hundreds submitted.
Duane and myself were picked as artists in the final 40. Our clown's name is Miss Beady Buttons, she has been sponsored
by - FCCI. Duane has made lampwork beads and eye's made from lampwork
glass that also glow in the dark. Her dress has beads and buttons scattered all over it. She will be on display
in Sarasota from October 1, 2006 until the first of May 2007. This has been a wonderful opportunity for the both
of us. She is almost finished and pictures of her progress follow. Hope she makes you laugh! I know we have had
lots of laughs working on her.
